This home featured rough sawn timber trusses by Earthwood Homes. The 2000 sq ft home was located in the Three Rivers Recreational area in Central Oregon's desert country. The Three Rivers Recreational area, 20 miles west of Madras in Central Oregon's desert country, is surrounded by wilderness and national forests. The site is perched atop the canyon walls of Lake Billy Chinook affording uninterrupted views to Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Hood and Lake Billy Chinook 850' below. The complex of main house, guest house and utility shed are laid out along the mesa rim to take full advantage of views across the canyon. A 10' wide porch flows out from a "dog trot" breezeway surrounding the house to make ample opportunities for outdoor activities out of the sun's reach. Corrugated metal roofing and culvert clad columns pick up farm building vernacular of the local area. Colors for the board and batt and stucco clad buildings were derived from plants, rocks and lichen at the site. At 2,000 sq. ft., the building incorporates numerous sustainable materials and technologies. There is no electricity available at the site. A 24 sq. ft. photovoltaic collector on the south oriented utility building sends its charge to an array of batteries which store power to be converted into 120 volts for lights and appliances.
